Our 2024 General Election Candidates for the Parliamentary Constituencies of Richmond Park and Twickenham
Richmond Park – Chas Warlow
The General Election is finally upon us! The Tories are toast, and we have a real opportunity to end the 14 years of chaos.
Previously this constituency has been a swing seat between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives, but this time it is different. Polling puts the Liberal Democrats well in the lead as the Tory vote has crumbled. This creates a huge opportunity for the Green Party.
On Richmond Council, where there isn’t even a single elected Labour representative, the Green Party are the Official Opposition. Chas Warlow is part of that team of Green Councillors who have led the way for our communities and demonstrated the importance of a strong alternative voice.
We know that there is no need to vote tactically in this election as there is no risk of the Tories winning, and that is why you can confidently support Chas and the Green Party. Labour cannot win here and so instead we are asking you to lend your vote to the Green Party in this election. You can send a clear message that Green priorities matter, and you refuse to be forced to vote for a Party that does not listen to your concerns.
This election is the perfect opportunity to vote Green, it is the best of both worlds. It is an opportunity to support the most well-liked Party in the country, the Greens, whilst watching the Conservatives lose their grip on power. A vote for Chas will empower him to demand better from Richmond Park’s MP, and build a strong foundation for our rapidly growing movement.
Twickenham – Chantal Kerr-Sheppard
It is General Election time, finally! Three Prime Ministers and countless scandals, but now comes the ceremonial booting out of the Tories. They are toast!
Twickenham has long been a place of Liberal Democrat and Conservative tug of war, but this time it is different. The Tories terrible record in office puts them with just a 3% chance of winning, according to Electoral Calculus who forecast the Liberal Democrats breezing to victory. You may think that this is bad news for the Green Party, but this is actually a great opportunity.
On Richmond Council, where there isn’t even a single elected Labour representative, it is the Green Party who have worked hard to become the Official Opposition. Your team of Green Councillors have led the way for our communities and demonstrated the importance of a strong alternative voice.
We know that there is no need to vote tactically in this election as there is just no threat of the Tories winning. You can lend your support to Chantal and the Green Party without fear. Labour have just as much chance (3%) of winning here as the Tories. So, instead of backing the establishment in an area where they cannot win, why not provide a boost to your local hard-working Green candidates in this election? You can send a clear message that Green priorities are your prioirities, and that environmental and social justice matter to you. Refuse to be forced to vote for a Party that does not listen to your concerns and promises nothing more than business-as-usual.
This is your chance – the perfect opportunity – to vote Green. This election is the best of both worlds. You have the opportunity to support the most well-liked Party in the country, the Greens, whilst watching the Conservatives lose their grip on power. What more could you want?!Your vote for Chantal will empower her to demand better for us from Twickenham’s MP, and build a strong foundation for our rapidly growing movement.
Our Candidate for the South West Constituency in the 2024 London Assembly Election:
Chas Warlow:
I’ve lived in Richmond for 14 years: my children went to Grey Court School in Ham, where I live, and then to Richmond College. I’ve been involved in several local community groups – helping residents to save energy at home and running environmental projects – since soon after moving to the area.
I’m one of 5 Green councillors in the London Borough of Richmond. I was elected in May 2022 – it was a huge moment for us collectively and I’m very proud of my colleagues and all our members who worked so hard to help us get elected.
In my work as a councillor I’m focusing on pushing the Council to do all it can to respond to the climate emergency that the Council declared in 2019 on the initiative of the Green Party Group. I want the Council to do more to help residents insulate their houses and install low-carbon technology like solar panels and heat pumps. As a group, we have also been pushing for our Council to become a registered social landlord so that we can insist on the highest standards of energy efficiency of future housing.
Before I became an active member of the Green Party I used to be involved in a lot of community projects like a hydro power project on the River Thames, and running energy advice projects to help people save money on their energy bills and cut carbon emissions. I also ran projects to help residents in Lewisham and Greenwich get grant funding for vital upgrades to their insulation and heating systems. Now I work for a renewable energy company that installs solar PV and electric vehicle chargepoints.
I got into politics because I saw that we need a positive vision in government at all levels. In the Green Party we share a common purpose to build a sustainable way of life, to preserve the planet’s biodiversity and resources, to create a future for future generations. It’s that positive vision that people are crying out for – because we all know that time is running out.
I’m the Green Party candidate for the South West constituency in the London Assembly elections in 2024 and I’m also the prospective parliamentary candidate for Richmond Park in the general election that is coming soon.
Former co-leader of the Green Party Sian Berry has given this endorsement: “Chas is a committed and multi-talented Green, with a fantastic way with words, a strong record of working hard as a councillor, plus real expertise in green energy and transport. We need to get more people with his kind of experience on the London Assembly in 2024 and I would love to gain him as a colleague.”
The Local Elections in 2022
A surge of support at the Richmond local elections in 2022 saw 5 Greens elected across the borough. Cllr Richard Bennett was re-elected in South Twickenham with 2,048 votes, and Cllr Andrée Frieze was re-elected in Ham, Petersham and Richmond Riverside, with 1,905 votes, both of them beating the best-polling Conservatives by over 1,100 votes. They were joined by three new Green councillors: Cllr Caroline Wren in Fulwell and Hampton Hill, with 2,153 votes, Cllr Niki Crookdake in Mortlake & Barnes Common, with 1,312 votes, and Cllr Chas Warlow in South Richmond, with 1,756 votes. Across Richmond, Greens were elected in all but one of the seats where they stood to be councillors. The Greens are the Opposition on Richmond Council and are the main challenger to the Lib Dems in the borough.
Our best-ever Richmond results!
