Andrée Frieze’s statement on the Heaton Park Synagogue attack in Manchester

“As both a fellow Jew and the leader of the Opposition on Richmond Council I am horrified by the terrorist attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Yom Kippur.

“My heart is broken by the death of two of the congregants, Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, may their memories be a blessing. I hope that the victims who are injured make full and swift recoveries, my thoughts are with them and their families.

“I was at my own synagogue yesterday, Kingston Liberal Synagogue, when I heard the appalling news. I have no doubt that, like me, Jews in Richmond borough – a number of who were with me at shul – are feeling less safe because of yesterday’s devastating violation of the holiest day in our lives. An attack on one Jew is an attack on all of us.

“We have known this day was coming. We have been fearing for our lives and our communities for the last two years and more.

“I stand in solidarity with Jews in our borough and across the United Kingdom.”
